Lighting plan

I decided to create a lighting plan since I’ve booked the studio at college. I made a plan so that when it comes to Tuesday next week, I know how and where I want to set up the equipment, as well as where to place the actors in the frame.

Lighting plans are useful because it allows you to visualise where you want the actors, equipment and camera to be placed. In my last few projects I don’t recall making lighting plans, so this time around I made sure that I actually did this.

I’m going to be filming both at home and in the studio, so I made sure to make lighting plans for both locations. I made sure to label each object, as well as try my best to draw the space I have at home. I labelled where Ioan and the equipment will be placed to get a silhouette and contrasted shadows for when I come to film the video. They’re not the best drawings, but I believe they are clear enough to understand.

I’ve booked the studio for Tuesday to experiment with the best placement of the studio lights. If I can’t get the right silhouette with the studio lights, I’ll have to use my phone torch. It’s quite bright in pitch black so I’m hoping that will work as an alternative.

I’m glad that I remembered to make a lighting plan because for my practise shoot on Tuesday, I can follow this plan and alter it if I have to. That could mean I have to make a second lighting plan, so I’ll make sure to take notes on where I place the studio lights and cameras as well as bringing pen and enough paper to note any changes. I’m only planning on booking it for an hour so hopefully I can figure out what the best technique is for a perfect silhouette.
