Equipment list

Today I decided to start and finish an Equipment list for my project. They’re essential for keeping track of what equipment you need as the weeks progress.

In the document, I listed all the equipment I knew I needed which was: camera, tripod, hard drive/SD card/USB, computer and laptop

I made sure to note who or what was supplying the equipment. Luckily my college has all the equipment available, however due to this final project being around the same time as the first-year FMP’s it gets very competitive to book equipment on time. To reduce the risk of this happening, I listed the names of friends and myself for the equipment I know they will let me borrow for this project. I have my own DSLR camera so I will be mainly using that, but I’m not really comfortable taking it into college (not sure why) so if I do end up filming in college I’ll have to borrow one from the store room or ask one of my friends for their camera.

Finally I made another section for the dates I need the equipment. This is mainly for when I book equipment through the college, I can show the list to whoever is in the store room at the time and arrange a time and date to use that equipment. I don’t necessarily have to date the equipment that is mine, but I will do this anyway so that I can remind myself what days I plan to film.

Equipment lists are essential for keeping track on what is needed on set for a certain date. It’s also useful for the people working in the store room to book equipment out for me when I need it. If this was a professional production then the equipment list would be considerably longer and more detailed, so this is just an introduction to how they would map out a list and plan to book the equipment.

These next few posts will just be the easiest documents for me to fill in before I go on to the more harder ones. I’d rather get the easiest ones out of the way first because then I have more time to do the harder ones in the future. The easiest ones also help me decide on what my shot list and recce’s will be so in a way they are helping me.

Next I plan to finish the health and safety document I started after the risk assessment. Hopefully I can breeze through the easier documents and start the more complex ones in a week or two’s time. My plan might change and I probably will be uploading blog posts for other documents I have finished, but I will get the health and safety document completed eventually.
